About Us
History & Milestones
Founded in 1976 by Mr Tan Kwee Chai with just eight employees, LY Group has grown steadily over the decades. The name LY, short for Lian Yu (联友) in Chinese, means “uniting friends”, reflecting the guiding philosophy of our founder. Mr Tan Kwee Chai believed that strong relationships are the foundation of success, a principle that remains central to our operations today. We value everyone in our company and those who collaborate with us, from our employees to suppliers and subcontractors. We believe success is shared, and together, we thrive.
Under the leadership of Mr Tan Kwee Chai, LY Group built a strong reputation as a leading manufacturer of wooden bedroom sets, establishing a recognised standard of excellence within the industry. In the early 2000s, the leadership transitioned to the second generation, with Mr Tan Yong Chuan taking over as CEO and Ms Tan Ai Luang as Marketing Director, guiding the group toward continued growth.
Today, LY Group is one of Malaysia's largest wooden furniture manufacturers, operating from 22 factories and warehouses with a dedicated workforce of over 1,000 employees.
